A friend and I were taking pictures down at a local lake, when a guy came up to us and asked if either of us had a knife or a lighter. We said sorry, no. He told us there was a duck with fishing line tangled around its neck and it was also tangled around a pole in the water, and he had a lighter that he might be able to get to spark and melt the line, but he needed help. He and I ran in the water, and were able to melt the line, and get the duck to shore, and I held it, while the man untied the fishing line. It was crazy because all the birds, I'm talking swans, geese, ducks, they were all gathered around us, watching what was going on! The poor thing went completely limp. I thought it died. He finally got all the line untied, and I rubbed and patted the duck's back and it came to! It shook its head and then looked at me and then after I got a picture with it, I set it down and it went on its way with all its buddies.
My friend and I were talking about how crazy that was and when we got to my place, we heard my 76 year old landlady screaming in the back yard. I opened the back door and she was getting chased by three baby raccoons! My friend and I were trying to shoo them away from her and help her into her house, and they wound up running into my place! One climbed the curtain, one hid under an end table, and one was running around. It took us like a half hour to get them out of there! That was the most bananas day ever!
